Oregon Scientific
RMR383HGA-BK
Wireless Indoor/Outdoor
Thermo-Hygrometer, in Black
|
|
|
Striking in gloss black, the Oregon Scientific RMR383HGA-BK Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermo
Hygrometer has a
generous complement of features. It displays the indoor temperature and humidity
and, as reported by the included remote temperature sensor, the outdoor temperature.
Trend arrows for temperature and humidity are displayed as well. The RMR383HGA-BK
can actually work with up to 3 remote sensors. When an optional
remote temperature and humidity sensor is used, the RMR383HGA-BK can
also do the following:
-
It can display (in addition to outdoor
temperature) the outdoor humidity (with trend), heat
index (with warning if applicable), and comfort level for the sensor's location.
-
It can retain min/max
outdoor humidity and heat index values (in addition to temperature) from
the sensor for instant pushbutton display.
-
If the sensor is for remote Channel 1,
the main unit can sound audible high and low humidity alarms (in addition to
temperature alarms)
for Channel 1.
With either the
included or optional remote, a visible ice warning can be
displayed for Channel 1 as well. Rounding out this product's features
is a radio-controlled ("atomic") clock with calendar, moon
phase, and snooze alarm.

With the touch of a
button, monitor the temperature and humidity indoors and the
temperature at 1
to 3 remote locations up to 100 feet (30 meters) away from
the main unit--and without ever stringing a wire or cable! One
THN132N wireless remote thermo sensor is included, and the main
unit can actually monitor up to three remote sensors.
Styled in black,
the RMR383HGA-BK looks very clean and sleek. This is because its
control pushbuttons are on the right side panel and on the back.
(The time zone switch and a Reset button are in the battery
compartment.) It's also because the snooze bar at the top is part
of a decorative flange that encircles the case and because the
on/off switch for the daily alarm is concealed under the lower
right corner of the front panel. To turn the alarm on or off, you
simply press the case front where it says ALARM and shows a sound
wave symbol.

The RMR383HGA-BK wireless indoor
outdoor thermometer is 4.3 inches wide by 5.5 inches high,
and its LCD panel is 2.1 inches wide by 3.2 inches high. Temperature
digits (except tenths) and humidity digits are about 0.7 inches tall,
time digits are about 0.6 inch tall, and month and date digits are about
0.5 inch tall. If your vision is reasonably normal, you'll
find the displays on this product easy to read.
Important Note:
Before you read about the various displays and their options, please be
aware that the included
THN132N remote temperature sensor does not support humidity
readings. Thus, the RMR383HGA-BK cannot display the outdoor (or other remote) humidity,
heat
index, and comfort level and cannot provide Channel 1 high and low humidity alarms
unless you purchase an optional THGR268 or THGN123N thermo-hygro sensor and use it as the Channel 1 remote. If you want to use three
remotes, the third can be either a thermo or thermo-hygro remote,
depending on whether or not you want humidity and heat index readings from
that
remote's location. In the description of the Temperature and Humidity Area below,
please assume that at least one optional THGR268
or THGN123N is
being used and that it is the Channel 1 remote.
The top two lines of the
four-line display are the Temperature and Humidity Area. The
top line shows the temperature and the second line shows the humidity for the selected location (indoors or a
selected remote channel). Temperature and humidity trend arrows (rising,
steady, or falling) are also shown. A house icon contains either a dot for indoors or 1,
2, or 3 for the selected remote channel. A waves icon above the house indicates reception of the remote's signal. If high
and/or low temperature alarms are set for Channel 1, alarm bell Hi and Lo
icons appear in the display. If the
Channel 1 remote temperature falls to between 37°F
and 28°F (3°C and -2°C), an ice warning icon in the form of a snowflake
or ice crystal above the temperature trend arrow flashes on and off. You
can option the display to auto-scan between indoors and all active remote
sensors at 3-second intervals. You can also press the MEM button to manually toggle between current,
maximum, and minimum temperatures and humidity for indoors and all active
remote sensors.
The HEAT INDEX button on
the back of the RMR383HGA-BK gives you several additional temperature display
options. You can display the current temperature or, in its place,
the current heat index for the selected remote channel. You can also
manually
toggle between current/maximum/minimum heat index readings. Another option automatically toggles between
current temperature and current heat index.
Between the temperature and
humidity display are an outdoor comfort level icon (WET, COMF, or DRY) and
a heat index icon (CAUTION, EXTREME CAUTION, DANGER, or EXTREME DANGER)
when the index is high. The conditions under which the comfort level icons
and heat index icons appear are given in tables in the BAR388HGA User
Manual.
Below the
Temperature and Humidity Area is the Clock/Alarm Area. The time is shown as hour and
minutes in 12-hour format with AM or PM or in 24-hour format. Month and
date are shown digitally as MM/DD or DD/MM. The weekday is a two-letter
abbreviation in your choice of English, French, German, Italian, or
Spanish. The MODE button on the right side of the case lets you display
clock seconds as an alternative to the weekday. If the clock has
successfully received the WWVB 60 kHz time-synchronization radio signal
from the U.S. atomic clock in Colorado, a tower and waves icon appears to
the left of the time. You must select your continental U.S. time
zone (Pacific, Mountain, Central, or Eastern), and P, M, C, or E is
displayed above seconds or weekday. The current moon phase is displayed
below seconds or weekday as one of eight icons. These are shown and described
in the User Manual. You can view the moon phase for any day from year 2001
through 2099.
The RMR383HGA-BK's atomic
clock has a single daily crescendo alarm with 2-minute duration and an
available 8-minute snooze function. The set alarm time can be viewed as an
alternative to the normal time and calendar display.
One THN132N wireless
remote temperature sensor is included with the RMR383HGA-BK, and
the main unit can actually monitor up to three temperature or
temperature-humidity sensors at a distance of up to 100 feet (30 meters).
The THN132N is a non-displaying remote. A red LED on the remote's front panel lights when transmission is occurring. Additional remote sensors can be obtained
separately and include the following:
- THGR268. This is a
temperature and humidity remote with its own display. You can use this
remote if you wish to display the outdoor humidity, comfort level, and
heat index and use the Channel 1 high and low humidity alarms.
- THGN123N. This is a
non-displaying
temperature and humidity remote that, with lithium batteries
installed, works down to -40°C/F. You can use this
remote if you wish to display the outdoor humidity, comfort level, and
heat index and use the Channel 1 high and low humidity alarms.
- THC268. This is a
temperature-only remote with its own display and a waterproof probe on a 10-foot (3-meter)
cable for use in pools,
spas, hot tubs, freezers, soil, etc.
You can select °F or °C for the temperature unit on
the optional displaying remotes. The temperature unit selected on the main
unit overrides
that of the remotes.
The RMR383HGA-BK main unit is designed
for free-standing use only and has a non-skid "back foot." The
THN132N remote sensor can rest on a horizontal surface, or it can be
wall-mounted via a keyhole slot on the back. Please be aware that the
small table stand that extends from the back of the remote is an integral
part of the battery compartment cover that makes up most of back of the
remote. You can hang the remote on a wall with the stand in place. This
remote is water-resistant but not waterproof. Choose a mounting location
where the THN132N is protected from direct sunlight and direct
precipitation.
The main unit uses two AA
alkaline batteries, and the remote thermo sensor uses one AA
alkaline battery. All batteries must be obtained separately. If the
remote will be used in sub-freezing temperatures, a lithium battery is recommended instead of alkaline.
