RMR382A-BK
Oregon Scientific
Indoor Outdoor Thermometer with Atomic Clock
|
|
|
Striking in gloss black, the RMR382A-BK Oregon Scientific Indoor Outdoor Thermometer with Atomic Clock
is compact in
size but has a large display and all the features you really need.
It displays the indoor temperature plus the outdoor (or other
remote) temperature from 1 to 3 locations. It also shows
the trends for all indoor and outdoor temperatures. The temperature min/max memory
stores the highest and lowest recorded indoor and outdoor values since the
last reset, and these can be displayed at the push of a button. Audible high and low temperature
alarms can be set for remote Channel 1, and a visible ice warning can be
displayed for Channel 1 as well. Rounding out this thermometer's many features
is a radio-controlled ("atomic") clock with calendar and daily alarm.

The RMR382A-BK wireless indoor
outdoor thermometer is 3.7 inches wide by 4.6 inches high,
and its LCD panel is 1.9 inches wide by 2.75 inches high. Temperature
digits (except tenths) and humidity digits are about 0.8 inches tall, and
time digits are about 0.5 inch tall. If your vision is reasonably normal, you'll
find the displays on this product easy to read.
The top line of the LCD
panel shows the outdoor (or other remote) temperature and indicates the
selected channel in a house icon above which a radio wave icon appears to
indicate reception of the remote's signal. A temperature trend arrow
(rising, steady, or falling) is shown along with the temperature. If high
and/or low temperature alarms are set for Channel 1, alarm bell Hi and Lo
icons appear in the display. If the
Channel 1 remote temperature falls to between 37°F
and 28°F (3°C and -2°C), an ice warning icon in the form of a snowflake
or ice crystal above the temperature trend arrow flashes on and off. You
can option the display to auto-scan between active sensors, and you can
press the MEM button to manually toggle between current, minimum, and
maximum temperatures for a selected sensor. Displaying minimum and maximum
values for a remote channel also causes minimum and maximum indoor values
to be displayed as well.
The second line of the LCD
panel shows the indoor temperature and indicates IN for indoor in a house
icon. A temperature
trend arrow (rising, steady, or falling) is shown along with the
temperature. Pressing MEM to view minimum and maximum indoor values also
causes minimum and maximum outdoor values for the selected remote channel
to be displayed as well.
The third line of the LCD
panel shows time and calendar information. The time is shown as hour and
minutes in 12-hour format with AM or PM or in 24-hour format. Pressing the
MODE button toggles the display between hour and minute with seconds, hour
and minute with weekday, or calendar (month, date, and year). Month and
date are shown digitally, and you can select MM/DD or DD/MM for their
order. The weekday is a two-letter
abbreviation in your choice of English, French, German, Italian, or
Spanish. If the clock has
successfully received the WWVB 60 kHz time-synchronization radio signal
from the U.S. atomic clock in Colorado, a tower and waves icon appears to
the left of the time. Although you must select your continental U.S. time
zone (Pacific, Mountain, Central, or Eastern), the zone is not displayed
during normal operation. Also, the year is displayed only during manual
setup.
The RMR382A-BK's atomic
clock has a single daily crescendo alarm with 2-minute duration. The set alarm time can be viewed as an
alternative to the normal time and calendar display. A sound wave ((.))
icon appears to the left of the hour digit when the alarm time is
displayed instead of clock time. An alarm bell icon appears to the left of
the hour digit when the alarm is set. A tower and waves icon appears below
AM or PM to indicate that the clock is searching for, has received, or has
not received the WWVB 60kHz time-synchronization radio signal from the
U.S. atomic clock source in Colorado.
One THN132N wireless remote
temperature sensor is included with the RMR382A-BK, and the unit can actually
monitor up to three sensors at a distance of up to 100 feet (30 meters).
The THN132N is a non-displaying sensor. A red LED on the sensor's front
panel lights when transmission is occurring. Additional remote sensors can
be obtained separately and include the following:
- THGR268. This is a
temperature and humidity sensor with its own display. If you use this
remote, you won't see the humidity on the RMR382A-BK main unit.
- THGN123N. This is a
non-displaying
temperature and humidity sensor that, with lithium batteries
installed, works down to -40 °C/F. If you use this
remote, you won't see the humidity on the RMR382A-BK main unit.
- THC268. This is a
temperature-only sensor with its own display and a waterproof probe on a 10-foot (3-meter)
cable for use in pools,
spas, hot tubs, freezers, soil, etc.
The RMR382A-BK main unit is designed
for free-standing use only and has a non-skid "back foot." The
THN132N remote sensor can rest on a horizontal surface, or it can be
wall-mounted via a keyhole slot on the back. Please be aware that the
small table stand that extends from the back of the remote is an integral
part of the battery compartment cover that makes up most of back of the
remote. You can hang the remote on a wall with the stand in place. This
remote is water-resistant but not waterproof. Choose a mounting location
where the THN132N is protected from direct sunlight and direct
precipitation.
The main unit uses two AAA
alkaline batteries, and the remote temperature sensor uses one AA
alkaline battery. All batteries must be obtained separately. If the
remote will be used in sub-freezing temperature conditions, a lithium
battery is recommended instead of alkaline. Low battery icons are
displayed on the main unit for itself and all active remotes when
replacement becomes necessary.
Note: This product comes
in a clear plastic blister pack that, once cut open, cannot be resealed.
Because opening a blister pack renders the enclosed product unfit for
resale, non-defective products whose blister packs have been opened are
not returnable. If you receive this product and it is not to your liking
(for example, if its appearance does not meet your expectations), please
leave the blister pack unopened and contact us for return instructions.
Defective products, however, can be returned for replacement. Again,
please contact us for instructions.
