Weather Station Offers Complete Monitoring, Forecasting and Storm
Alerts
OREGON SCIENTIFIC, PORTLAND, OR -- Planning today's or tomorrow's
activities with the weather in mind -- and being alerted to
threatening storm conditions -- will become routine for those who
use the new Home Weather Station from Oregon Scientific.
This product was named a winner of the '98 Winter CES Design and
Engineering Award. This product was also named one of the
"Best of What's New" by the editors of Popular Science
Magazine in their annual survey of the latest in technology.
It's a completely equipped environmental monitoring center that
also features Oregon Scientific's innovative automatic
weather-forecasting system with an audible/visual Storm-Warning
Alert mode.
"This unique instrument, incorporating our state-of-the-art
weather-monitoring technology, will be like having a professional
meteorologist in your home at all times," stated David
Childers, the company's president. "It's also ideal for
gardeners and greenhouse owners, outdoors enthusiasts, farmers,
and others who depend on having complete weather
information."
Weather Forecasts & Storm Warnings
The Home Weather Station, Model WM-918 features a compact (7"
wide x 4.25" high) multi-function desktop control unit with a
large graphical liquid-crystal display (LCD) panel. All necessary
monitoring accessories are included: thermohygrometer sensor for
outdoor temperatures and humidity, anemometer with wind vane for
wind speed and direction, and a self-emptying electronic rain
gauge.
Easy-to-understand weather-forecast icons --
Sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy, rainy/snowy, and stormy -- are
displayed on the LCD screen to indicate the local weather forecast
for the next 12-24 hours. With an internal electronic sensor that
monitors the rate and consistency of barometric-pressure changes,
the Home Weather Station shows forecasts that are generally 75
percent accurate for the surrounding 30-mile area.
Over 20 Weather-Monitoring Features
More than 20 separate weather conditions are monitored and
displayed by the Home Weather Station, including:
* Barometric pressure and trend
* Weather forecasting with storm alert
* Indoor/outdoor temperatures
* Wind speed/direction as well as wind chill
* Indoor/outdoor dew point
* Rainfall rate and daily/accumulated amounts
* Hygrometer with indoor/outdoor relative humidity readings
The system features memories for all conditions, such as high and
low temperatures, as well as optional user-set alarms for all
monitoring functions. Each alarm activates an audible/visual
warning condition when a pre-set value, such as a wind-chill
reading, is reached.
The backlit display of the comprehensive control unit also
features a digital clock with alarm and day/date calendar. Weather
conditions are graphically displayed, including a compass rose for
wind direction, and graphical feature icons indicate the
monitoring mode.
The Oregon Scientific instrument is a fully equipped home weather
monitoring system. It includes all external weather sensors and
connecting wires, unlike competitive units that may only offer
certain sensors and/or rain collectors as added-cost accessories.
All outdoor components are attached to the indoor control unit
with standard modular telephone-type wiring and connectors
(included). The system is easily installed with no prior wiring
experience necessary.
An optional PC Link Kit ($49.95 suggested retail) enables
connecting the Home Weather Station to a personal computer.
Weather conditions can be monitored, stored and graphed in a
variety of report styles. The accessory kit includes PC Link cable
and PC-compatible software; the control unit is pre-wired with a
PC Link connector. |
